MJ Making Time... Past... Present... and Future!
September 26 , 2004

“Congratulations to Mary Jane Ling, who was the recipient of the Investors Group Community Sport Administrator Award for Synchro Spirit 2004 – Toronto”
The Investor’s Group Award, is every year, a much anticipated presentation within the Synchro Ontario community. It is awarded to a person who displays, above and beyond the call of duty, an active role in volunteerism activities that improve the lives of our swimmers, coaches, or clubs. Investor’s Group has so generously given this award as their corporate support in recognition of such efforts within the Synchronized Swimming community.
This year, Newmarket Synchro’s very own Mary-Jane Ling was presented with this prestigious award at Synchro Ontario’s Synchro Spirit event in September, at the Olympium Pool in Etobicoke. To those who know Mary-Jane (MJ), we know, it could not have gone to a more deserving person. Too many people know MJ, as our awesome Head Coach – you know- the coach who is at the pool 6 days/nights a week, coaching…coaching and coaching! Well, here are some things that most of you do not know about this amazing lady, that make her even more awesome.
Did you know that:
- MJ swam as Ontario’s Sr. Champion for 10 consecutive years – a title never repeated by another swimmer since; and was a National and International Medallist several times.
- MJ has coached athletes to the National Team 6 times.
- MJ has coached solos/duets & teams to National and International titles many times.
- MJ wrote the book for Synchro Ontario’s Trillium Awards Program.
- MJ is an NCCP Master Course Conductor and NCCP Level 3 Evaluator – one of only a few in Canada.
- MJ is a past National Level 4 Judge.
- MJ heads up Synchro Canada’s Coaches’ Committee.
- MJ is an active member of Synchro Ontario’s Technical Committee and High Performance Committee.
- MJ gives countless hours in administration and support of Newmarket Synchro.
- MJ is Ontario’s High Performance Summer Camp Director, having both created and directed the implementation of the Camps’ very successful first season for the Tiers 1-5 Camps.
To know MJ is to love Synchro!!!, be it as a swimmer, a coach, an official or an administrator.
MJ has invested much of her life in the pursuit of excellence in the sport of synchronized swimming, and is recognized not only throughout the province, but in all of Canada and beyond….and she makes it a better world for all. MJ epitomizes as a person, everything the sport has to offer – grace, beauty, strength, flexibility and endurance.
She gives unconditionally of herself to the synchro community and deserves any award that recognizes back, any little bit of what she brings to the table with being such a notable force in our great sport. Newmarket Synchro is most fortunate to have her as our leader!
So to MJ, from the many of us whose lives have been touched by your generosity, kindness and giving of your time
…for the past and making history
…for the present and making everyone the best they can be, and
…for the future and looking forward…and for making dreams happen.
THANK YOU … and thank you Carol!! |
