October 28 – Aquadome Aquatics Centre, Newmarket, Ontario –Newmarket Synchro with a strong contingent of the Club’s swimmers in attendance, endured a challenging swim-a-thon in support of the Breast Cancer Society. As a member of Synchro Ontario, our club joined in this province-wide charity initiative, with swimmers collecting pledges for their swimming efforts.

The swimmers were given just over an hour of pool time, during which they carried a candle torch in a relay event, without stopping. “The candle symbolizes keeping the flame alive for finding a cure for breast cancer”. The enthusiasm of our athletes was magnetic, and the many parents cheering on their progress made the event, one we can look back on and be very proud of. Kelly Store, one of our parents, added yet a more personal touch of support, and came to the pool for the event with her hair shaved in support of the Breast Cancer Society, for which she also had raised money for the cause.

The evening came to a close, with a water assembly of all swimmer participants, joining together in support of this most worthwhile endeavour. Their final formation, with torches raised, created a magical and memorable water display of the Beast Cancer Society’s symbol of the ‘Ribbon of Hope’.

This undertaking was so very special to our Club and our members, and we thank Synchro Ontario for being the catalyst, and giving the clubs across the province, the opportunity to reach outside the box in our community responsibilities and fundraising support.

We also thank Emmy Vink and MJ, who so generously gave of their time to coordinate this event at Newmarket Synchro, to help make Hope a reality. We look forward to an even bigger success next year.
