AWARDS OF RECOGNITION FROM THE MAYOR OF NEWMARKET

The entire Club joined in the event as the Tier 4 Team at Newmarket Synchronized Swim Club under the direction of Mary-Jane Ling, was honoured at their weekly practice with a visit from the town’s top official – Mayor Tom Taylor.

Mayor Taylor attended their Wednesday night practice on May 12th, 2004 and presented each swimmer with a Certificate of Recognition and Honorary Pin from the Town. He spoke with the Team and with each member, expressing his pride and appreciation to them for being such outstanding ambassadors for the Town, and for their exceptional performances at their competitions so far this year. He was especially thrilled with their results at their most recent Central/North Regional Meet, where the Team swept all the top place ribbons in the Figure, Duet and Team events. He admired their medals and applauded their Ontario Winter Game results, where both Duets won Gold and Silver medals respectively, and the Team brought home a Bronze. The Team then had the great honour of performing their routine for the Mayor.

Mayor Taylor also congratulated the Tier One Teams on their fine performances, placing 2 nd and 6 th at the Central/North Regional Trials. He encouraged all the athletes to continue their pursuit of excellence in the sport of Synchronized Swimming, and reinforced his appreciation on behalf of the Town of Newmarket to all, for their commitment and personal sacrifices in achieving their goals. Their perseverance and successes are the foundation blocks to building a very strong future for our community.

It is a rare privilege to have the Mayor present our athletes with such a memorable occasion, and the girls were thrilled to become a small part of Newmarket history. It is their goal to continue with their best performances for the remainder of the season, and to keep Newmarket on the map for a long time to come.

Many thanks go to Mayor Taylor for his kindness, time and genuine interest in recognizing these young athletes and Good Luck to the girls!!
