The setting – The final cross country Olay National Tour Watershow on July 27 th, for Canada’s 2004 Olympic Synchronized Swimming Team, before leaving for Athens, Greece. The venue - The Olympium Pool in Etobicoke, and the crowds gathered for an evening to remember. For the Newmarket Tier 4 Team and Duets, it truly was an evening they are sure to never forget.

It had been almost two months since the 2003/2004 Provincial Competition season ended, and that long since the Newmarket Synchro Team and Duets practiced their routines on a regular basis. Answering a call for routines from Synchro Ontario, was the first step….

To Dare!! How do we not? The opportunity to do what we love most and be on the same program as Canada’s best, comes perhaps but once in a lifetime. We have the courage…Of course we Dare! …and we choose to dare because we Believe.

To Believe!! … That we can rise above the fear, and do what we know we are capable of doing. We have risen to the challenge all year, and proved that we can … so yes, with coach MJ guiding us through the final preparations, she’s taught us well to believe we can … and yes once again, we did.

Swimming right after the Olympic Team’s opening, came our Silver (Tier) & Gold (OWG) medal winners Duet, of Laura and Jocelyn. In spite of sound system problems and delays, they rose to the occasion and swam a memorable routine. Later in the program, came our Gold (Tier) and Silver (OWG) Duet of Ali and Leah, who performed with the consistency that won them the Gold.

The greatest honour of course, was for our Team, to precede the Olympic Team’s grand finale swim of the evening. Being there, Newmarket Synchro on deck with our 2004 Olympians, readying for their trip to Greece, the land of the first Olympics, to feel the exhilaration, to watch in awe, to catch a star …
