Provincial Championships at Etobicoke Olympium Brings Home Two More Medals for Newmarket Synchro!

The Provincial Championships held this past weekend at the Olympium Pool in Etobicoke, was the first qualifying meet for National level competitive routines to begin their journey toward the National Canadian Open Championships to be held this year in Calgary in May and the Canadian Espoir Championships to be held in Saskatoon in June.

Newmarket Synchro has a Tier 6/7 Combo and a Tier 7 Senior Duet competing at the National Level this season, and they each brought home medals from this qualifying event.

Our Tier 6/7 Combo 'Burn the Floor' Dance themed routine, made up of Mandy Corbett, Jennifer Dwyer, Tamara Elson, Danielle Hoey, Kendra Jacobs, Jacquelyn King, Laura Towsley, Sarah Stroud, and coached by Mary-Jane Ling, placed third, earning them a bronze medal. In spite of swimming short a team member, with Sarah Stroud, out due to a shoulder injury, the team swam a tremendous routine with seven and made us proud.

Our Tier 7 Senior Duet of Danielle Hoey and Kendra Jacobs swam both their 'Winter' theme Technical Routine and their 'Round the World' Free Routine absolutely beautifully, coming home proudly wearing the Silver Medal.

Another major accomplishment for Newmarket Synchro at the Olympium this weekend was our Provincial level Tier 5 Team, who was honoured to pre-swim the Provincial Championships event, and swam a brilliant rendition of their 'Gypsy' routine. They received a warm welcome and great applause from the almost full house of spectators, and scored proudly with marks that would have placed them well in the Tier 6 competitons.
